Tibetan: རབ་མེད་ཆུ་བོ་བེའི་ཏ་ར་ནི་ཆེན་པོ་
Tibetan (Wylie): rab med, chu bo be’i ta ra ni chen po
Tibetan (phonetics): rab me, chu wo be ta ra ni chen po
English term: River Without Ford
Alternative: The River
English definition: The fourth of the four Neighboring Hells. The river of boiling waters full of burning ashes. On both sides (of the river Vaitaraṇī) are people armed with swords, lances and javelins, who push back the hell beings who want to get out. Whether they submerge or emerge in the water, whether they go up or down the current, whether they traverse in the two directions or are tossed about, the hell-beings are boiled and cooked, like grains of sesame or of wheat which are poured into a cauldron placed over a fire.
