English Definition: One of the four Indian philosophical schools, within which it constitutes one of the two schools of the Lower Vehicle. They receive their name from the “The Great Treasury of Detailed Exposition” and their main tenets are presented in the “Treasury of Abhidharma”. Among their main assertions are: the denial of self-reflexive awareness; the ultimate existence of partless particles and partless moments of consciouesness; the past, present, and future are substantially existent; consciousness apprehends objects directly, without mental representations; entities and their characteristics are substantially different.
