English term: Ultimate truth
English Definition: A synonym of emptiness, the ultimate nature of phenomena, in contrast to the relative truth of conventionally experienced perceptions. The Sanskrit term literally means “the highest-object truth,” because it is what is realized by wisdom (prajñā) as the highest form of mind. As such, it refers to the absolute understanding of phenomena and reality as it is perceived by a mind that is purified of all delusion, in contrast to the relative truth that is perceived by ordinary unenlightened beings. Each of the four Buddhist tenent systems define the conventional truth in their own ways. What is presented here is the Sarvāstivāda/Vaibhāṣika presentaton of ultimate truth.
